On a more serious note, a knife will always be handy to have in the field, regardless of whatever else you’re packing. There’s just too many ways to make use of a (relatively) small, sharpened piece of metal for it to become obsolete.
You forget that it’s a super-science super-future supersword made of pure grimdark so dense it could cut through a block of solid Neil Gaiman.
Also it probably has a thingy in it that makes it cuttier.
Well, a Space Marine’s combat knife would be a sword with an oversized grip in a normal person’s hands.
