Ali first gained fame winning a Gold Medal at the Rome Olympics in 1960. A few years later he won the heavyweight title with a knockout of Sonny Liston. A day after the Liston fight he announced his conversion to Islam and changed his name becoming a lightning rod for controversy. That continued when Ali refused to enter the draft and was suspended from boxing losing the title. Muhammad Ali would eventually be vindicated and become one of the most colorful characters with his boastful rhymes, labeling himself the greatest. In 1974 using the rope a dope, Ali beat George Foreman to regain the title. With legendary duels with Joe Frazier and Ken Norton, Ali gained new popularity before retiring in 1981.
