Can’t have been, Tirek not knowing about Twilight was a plot point (which was something of a plothole anyway since he broke out of Tartarus before Twilight’s coronation, but somehow learned about Cadence while failing to learn about Twilight).
 
Going to say it’s actually a magical construct Luna created to look after the castle library at some point in the past, and that’s where the legend about it came from.
