The DA getter should be “fixed” now and should be forcing a get of the image served in the Download Image link.
You’re right.
It’s been a long-time issue with the automatic uploader from devianArt. People used to put the dA page URL in “Grab from URL”, but it didn’t work for some weeks.
To upload the larger one, you should explicitly use the URL of the larger version, which you can get clicking on Download Image on dA.
And use the dA page URL as the source, for reference.
Anyway, it seems that the dA problem is now fixed.
