Cropping is removing needless parts of an image (unneeded empty background for instance) by setting new, closer borders to the canvas. You can think of cropping as using a pair of scissors to cut out the parts you no longer want. Most image editing software has a specific cropping tool.

MS Paint is a bit different-~~you select the part you want to keep and only then click “crop”. Finer adjustments can be done by:
~~ moving right/bottom edges inward by hand

selecting the full canvas and moving it up/left to crop at the top and/or left side.

Standard Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y commands work with cropping adjustments as normal.
