It varies. Sometimes Doom was horribly scarred from the experiment, sometimes just a small cut.
 
The only thing consistent about it was that Doom got scarred, blamed Richrds, and putting his mask on before it cooled made the scarring worse.

I feel few people will get the significance of this comparison, as Doom wears the metal mask because he has some sort of insignificant scar on his face and can’t stand the idea of people seeing him with any sort of flaw.
