Keep in mind it came out a year before The Little Mermaid which literally started the Disney Renaissance.
Probably in comparison Oliver and Company was just seen as a footnote compared to the movies after. Same applies for most 80s Disney movies either seen as meh or downright terrible.
I never understood as a kid why people disliked it. Maybe it just didn’t have the timelessness of a fairy tale.
But I always loved this movie and will defend its honor.

It seems to have garnered mostly mediocre-to-ok reviews; there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hate for the movie, but not a lot of affection either. Personally, I like it quite a bit, but I can understand why others think it’s flawed.
