Rainbow and a butterfly Fluttershy spoke to said the pond only appeared a few days ago. You have a point about the sudden appearance of pools of evil water though. It’s one thing for a creepy swamp to be evil. That’s as old as Tolkien. It’s another thing when you give the waters of a verdant hot spring mind-altering properties in a setting like Equestria.
 
As a side note, with the water cycle and drainage, this evil water could spread and corrupt other ponies.

the reason you should never have seemingly harmless actions with terrible consequences in your story is because it destablizes your setting. the reason poison joke didn’t do terrible things is because the plant was random, and apparently harmless. here, there wasn’t even a mysterious plant here, no dark ritual, no evil influence, no past foe. if I know the writers, they just made a random “pond o’ evil” as the cause for this. there was no warning, nothing for the ponies to avoid, and no chance to resist. and that means from now on, every time they go swimming, every time they take a bath they’d be idiots not to worry that it’ll happen to them again. this is mind rape of the worst degree, where they’re being forced to want to be evil, rather than forced to be evil, the sort of thing that either leads to years of guilt, self doubt and trauma, or ugly plot holes belching forth amnesia dust. and they got it from taking a bath?!
 
so this comic should be a lesson to any writers out there. put a warning sign by your pond ‘o evil. have the goody four-shoes go and do something stupid, like pick up an evil book of obvious evil. make the characters slip slowly into their evil through honest mistakes. give the reader some reason everything went bad fast, or you’ve rendered your whole setting as completely arbitrary.
 
I look forward to the day when the amazing artist tony fleecs gets a writer who isn’t a complete moron with some disturbing mental issues. until then, good grief people. the water wasn’t even dark!

Of all the Batman movies to knock off, I didn’t think they’d go with Forever.

As much as I’m going to love this month’s comic issue, I seriously don’t  
like the concept of this in comic book form. In all honestly and opinion,  
this month’s issue should be considered two-part premiere/finale worthy.

Ah, right, that one. They really would have been better off not including her in that arc if they felt the need to restrict her that much, or at least they could have come up with a better justification than “I can’t use magic on Equestrian citizens.”

Her being unable to do anything against the Smooze in Make New Friends but Keep Discord. Under normal circumstances, I doubt she would have been challenged by it.

The first example that comes to mind is the cattle rustler arc. Twilight refused to stop the villains with magic despite having no qualms about doing that any other time.
