Because it prevented EVERYTHING that a community is known for: creativity by making new stories and songs and videos showcasing the creators favorite parts of their fandom. Or even reimaginings and reinterpretations. Just look at the anime AstroBoys’ premise: which is basically a retelling of the story of Pinochio but in the 21st Century and instead of a wooden puppet made by a toymaker longing for a son of his own, its a robot built by a scientist grieving over the death of his son. And AstroBoy is not the only example of a reinterprtive imagining mind you, but anything you have seen or heard has trace elements of other things.
