Subjects of Equestria! We are pleased to kick off the Nightmare Night Festivities and the 14th anniversary of the return of our beloved Princess Luna! Join us in celebration!
I’m not certain you can call it strings when you do a good turn to a random stranger who you have no way or contacting, trusting that they will do somepony else a good turn and that eventually that goodwill will spread. It’s called enlightened self-interest. If you make the world a better place to live in, it will be a better place for you as well.
I’m not sure anyone exists who gives and gives and has no hope of ever receiving anything in return. Even Mother Teresa and John Paul II were at least thanked.

That’s not generosity anymore though, and I feel like the current generation is in a deep mess where people managed to forget how to distinguish a favor from an actual honest gift. When you gift or donate something you don’t expect anything to come back to you, but that’s not the case with Rarity, is it? She keeps these favors as strings and uses them whenever she wants to achieve something which requires help, as shown by pretty much everyone returning her favors in the episode itself and who knows show many other times outside it. This is not really generosity, this is manipulation. Combine it with her over-the-top drama and ego (remember the way she treated AJ based on the farmer label?), her constantly self-centered out-of-line remarks and unrealistic expectations and I could even argue that she is the weakest chain amongst the element bearers as she really presents the qualities of her element the least out of the mane6. All of this and her personality quirks might have also been why she followed the Gryphon king in the comics after supposedly learning her lesson on whoring, or why the Nightmare picked and infiltrated her out of all ponies.
This being said, all of this is subjective and quite pointless to discuss. Rarity fans (who are quite numerous as of late for whatever reason) will jump me and tore my throat claiming everything I said is complete nonsense and that their waifu did so much good that it supposedly pardons any and all negative aspects she might have, while others might propose their own views… But I doubt we can ever settle this discussion once and for all.
@ViperBits
Well, about the slave labor bit, she was feeling horribly used and went overboard in her reaction, basically demanding her friends show their loyalty to her after she’d had her worldview challenged by that horrible bitch who took advantage of her generosity. Her friends went along with this because they love her, and recognized the need despite how she was treating them.
The question of Rarity’s generosity is always a sticky one, because she is quite generous, but she’s not exactly Gandhi about it. She is generous with her time, and with her friends, certainly with advice (debatable whether it helps, but she tries).
They are more than just the elements that they embody. A character that did nothing but give would be flat and uninteresting. She’s quite dynamic.
As for the whole “I give so that I can be given to” thing from the manehatten episode, that’s a very practical way to practice such things. If you spread good karma, you expect it to come back to you, and when things go wrong (like the aforementioned bitch) it shakes you.
@gittonsxv
Well, she is a self obsessed manipulative and quite cruel being at times, as demonstrated in the episode where she got that book and went crazy changing everypony and everything to how SHE thought they should be. Plus she manipulated and guilt-tripped her friends into basically doing slave labor for her in Manehattan… Even going as far as disclosing that she did all these favors for everypony fully expecting them to return the favor once she needed it. Which kind of goes against the generosity aspect and straight into the manipulative territory. Going by the same examples it is easy to assume that all her actions are like that and that behind her mask she is a cold and logical self-centered being who thinks herself to be better than others (“to be a princess as I deserve”)… And the logical type is usually held back only by restrictions rather than emotions of guilt or anything, so given the opportunity who knows what she would do to achieve her own goals and ambitious. But all of this is just speculation and headcanon as a show for kinds can’t really explore deep problems like that.
Using your looks to get what you want does not make you a slut. That would imply that Rarity rewards every pony she flirts with with actual sexual favors. And as for stalking a prince… I’m pretty sure that was just her trying to live out foalhood dreams of being a princess. She didn’t throw herself at him so much as tried to position herself to meet him.
Now, in the MAS show, yes, she is a cruel, manipulative, sadistic slut.
@gittonsxv
And for a good reason, don’t you think? She was basically stalking a prince and obviously wanted to bed him to gain the status of a princess/royalty… Not to mention all the times when she used her looks (which I personally think are average and artificial at best) to make stallions do what she wanted. And that is only what we saw in a show for kids! She IS a slut.
@gittonsxv
Well, you have to understand that this is the Mentally Advanced versions of Fluttershy and Rarity. And yes, Rarity is a huge slut in that universe.

ok but what about the other part where she is a sadistic and cruel slut?

Shes like that in half these fandom universes…

The word before hoofjob is hard to read.
“Well, i don’t even stand hoofjob”
…OH GOODY,
another god damn comic where rarity is both a partial slut AND sadist, how original!
The kind that will give a guy ‘Indian Rope Burn’ on his penis is the implication.
Also, what is Fluttershy saying? I can’t understand the next-to-the-last word.
rare what kind of slut are you?
Hell, where did you get it?
