Anyways, I had an old drawing like this but didn’t do anything with it. It’s on my other computer so I decided to make a new one!
In the Kilalaverse there are several different overarching stories and major story points that I have going on in my head. Many of them just being the little romances between characters (a major one being T, Annie and Nidra’s love story). There is also the Nightmare Dove story as well as this a gradual conflict with dragons which leaves Spike and his family in a bad situation given that they’re dragons living in Equestria.
But a really big one is the challenges that the next gen royals have to face. They are hybrids and the characters that they’re romantically involved with are also hybrids. Some of the inhabitants of Equestria do NOT like this. It results in these royals being constantly criticized, scrutinized and always under the public eye. These ponies fear that the issue will only get worse in the future and that Equestria will no longer be ruled by ponies, but rather draconequus, changelings and dragons. All of which were their enemies before.
So there you have it! I have a lot of stuff I want to touch on but it’s very hard to go about and if I do touch on it, I want to do it right. Hopefully you get the gist of it and are able to make up some new headcanons of your own!
But… This isn’t tumblr.
As for her changing it because of Lop, I don’t think that’s the case. She never outright stated that the royal children got along with Equestria’s populace like you said they did, and they do have disguises for a reason. Also, as I know from personal experience, there can be a very small group of people that are so vocal about their opinions, you wouldn’t know that most people were accepting.
That’s probably the case here, as they have to have some insecurities about being hybrids already. “I’m different, so very few people will like me,” is something I felt before learning that there were plenty of people like me. They can’t have that same realization I had, since they are different factually. They may also think most of the respect they get is from their parents and status as royalty.
What does make this image odd, though, is that I doubt Nidra and Illusion would actually care that much either way. Aside from their group of friends, Illusion revels in his difference, and Nidra is a bit of a brat (according to Kilala). Maybe they would feel this was when they were young, but not as they grew older. The only realistic context for this picture is if they’re trying to protect Flurry Heart’s unnamed kid.
… Actually, looking at it again, that may be the context. Nidra and Illusion look angry, and the kid looks scared.
Because it wouldn’t be Tumblr without pointless drama
Why the need to change it? Equestria really doesn’t strike me as the place where this sort of thing would be so wide-spread. More often, ponies would just hide from creatures they don’t understand. {Like hiding from Zecora.} and even then, it wouldn’t be as bad as humans. As well, a few of these hybrids are either the children of national heroes or the royalty.
Are these ponies idiot? {Or is this just a sort of thing writers do to make us sympathize with the characters more? It’s honestly just…. ugh. I can sympathize with a character that isn’t ostracized, thank you very much.}
Not sure how to feel about this change. Initially, the background information just kinda pointed to “yeah, they’re hybrids, but they get along with the world”. Then, in comes Lop with her universe going “No, they’re all supressed in mine! It’s all so horrible!” and them Ki turns around to match it
