While that is the main purpose of the wings, I think stymieing the other competitors may have been an unforeseen benefit of the design (At least where Derpy is concerned ;D).

Y’know, this image really does fit Rarity. After all, she is a dickbag. And I’m not referring to her actions in the race.

She certainly had an interest in dicking the other competitors over, though >_> Those swan wings served as well to block other racers from passing her as they did to block them from the gaze of judges and onlookers.

Thank you. The map supports what you have been saying. I presumed that Scootaloo, Snips, and Diamond Tiara were ahead since they aren’t shown in the clip in the original post.
 
I accept your correction regarding positioning, but I maintain that Rarity had no interest in finishing the race as fast as possible.

Not true. As you can see when all three groups of vehicles collide, Dash was a loop ahead of the pack, Applejack was a loop behind, and Rarity had the rest of the group bottled up behind her.

A: Great picture. Kudos to the artist.
 
B: Rarity finishing the race before the other two carts was not her intention. She only cared about having the most creatively designed cart. Besides, she and Sweetie Belle are not even in 3rd place, so it hardly matters (Scootaloo, Snips, and Diamond Tiara are all ahead of this group).
 
C: Rainbow Dash was also cheating / engaging in poor sportsmanship, and she actually cared about finishing the race as fast as possible. She rammed her cart into another cart to push them aside / drive them off the road Ben-Hur style.
