Shokaku was in drydock for repairs and her sister Zuikaku had lost her air group, so neither were present at the Battle of Midway. Shokaku was later sunk at the Battle of the Philippine Sea (a.k.a. the Marianas Turkey Shoot), and Zuikaku was lost acting as a decoy to distract Halsey at the Battle of Cape Engaño during the Leyte Gulf Campaign (which still failed as the Japanese Southern Force was curb-stomped in the Surigao Strait, and the Center Force ran into the USS JOHNSTON).

I’ve watched the recent Midway movie. I love much of it but I always feel a chill when watching the scene where Nagumo is getting ready to launch the second strike against where he thinks the US fleet is. And then he and his bridge crew hear the sound of dive bombers directly overhead… I’ll always wonder what thoughts went through his head in real life at that moment.

@Evident Disaster that carrier is the Hiryu. Island on her port side(The head of that pone is covering it). Atleast, this is from I’ve got out of my brain

Is this the battle of Midway? The design of the aircraft carrier looks familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it, unless this is just the artist’s interpretation, then alright.
