@Daneasaur cleopatra jazz (or whatever her name ends up being) could imply josephine baker (although, following that logic, photo finish should imply anna wintour), but I wouldn’t set it up to go the other way as well, since it’s possible someone could do a Josephine Baker reference without using the pony posted above.
@Amber
What if we have Josaphine baker and Cleopatra jazz imply eachother, therefore making her name noted on every image of her, yet both are correct (one being her actual name and another being a more “pony friendly” stage name?)
The biggest problem with using Chiquita Banana here isn’t even that it’s an enthusiastically defended trademark of a multibajillion dollar international corporation with a documented history of literally destroying entire nations and being one of the actual-factual sources of the term “banana republic”, it’s that the name is heavily associated with iconography of Carmen Miranda, who is quite likely to eventually have her own ponified expy appear in the show, given the fact that Discord still exists and has cosplayed as her before.
I’m still going with Cleopatra Jazz, unless/until she gets a Word Of God name from Big Jim or one of the character designers.
And a reason I personally vote against chiquita banana is due to the earliest image with that tag in the gallery, but also does not match the actual performer who is ponified here in any manner.
I’m open to Josephine baker, but i agree that a stage name she went by is a more proper course of action for a Pony name, hence my standing on Cleopatra Jazz as it doesn’t imply ethnicity or anything more than a formal name and a music style.
Chiquito/Chiquita it’s not a human name as in a “regular” human name.
It means “small” in Spanish. Just like that.
Just adding that info.
But yeah, the only real problem with Chiquita Banana is that it’s a company name. Unless you guys are willing to accept a synonym, like “Pequeña”, so it goes like “Pequeña Banana”.
Oh right, Tumblr. Personally I find their reasoning ridiculous most of the time. But yeah, you’re right, they would get overy touchy over this. That only leaves “Bronze Pearl”. It still somewhat retains the Baker reference.
The problem with “Chiquita Banana” aside from it being the name of a company is that it misses the reference completely. It’d be like naming Photo Finish (assuming she didn’t already have a name) after Lady Gaga.
@Amber
I’m-a go ahead and recommend rather strongly against trying to name a character “Black Jazz” in a world where Tumblr exists; the mods drink themselves to sleep often enough as it is.
@Horsesass
Note: anyone can go around and change the tags. Only the mods have the final say on how it gets aliased. Until there’s a final alias, it’s still up for debate/suggestions.
Usually,we’ve been trying to do these kind of decisions through a poll, before changing the tags, Like with the whole “Molly” vs “Pacific Glow” issue or that Watermelon Pony(which in this case had so many fantastic names), but the guys who usually do it aren’t around this time.
@Background Pony #299C and you have shared your opinions. So yeah, I think we should give it some more thought and have the tags changed again.
Like I said, in my opinion, I reafirm that whoever pointed out this could be a Josephine Baker reference has the right idea, but due to what BP already said, which I agree, I suggested to mix some of the other Baker’s nicknames, which “Bronze Pearl” and “Black Jazz” came out.
@Amber
I’m not terribly sold on using “Cleopatra” in a pony name myself, but IMHO it’s almost as mythological a name as “Venus”, so I can accept it. I’d love to use some variant of “Black Pearl” for this pony, but as it stands it doesn’t really seem to fit her. (Though her having that as a name could be used to explain her fondness for wearing pearls.) Not really sure how “Bronze Venus” is a less blatant reference than “Cleopatra Jazz”, but I’d be satisfied with either.

Exactly.
Like Andy Warhol.
The name of the pony that’s based on Andy is “Pop Art” and has it’s own tag. But the name of the actual person is also there.
I understand the objections, but Chiquita Banana is whimsical and fun. I like whimsical and fun.
I’m still going with Cleopatra Jazz, unless/until she gets a Word Of God name from Big Jim or one of the character designers.
Maybe so, but it was also a reasonably popular suggested name for the pony.
Either way, I will say I’m a little disappointed that she isn’t as popular as I thought she’d be.
A mod/admin has to do it.

Josephine Baker shouldn’t be aliased, it’s the name of the person this pony is based on.
Uh… anyone know how to make that happen?
Completely fair.
And that’s fine. Just respect the opinions of those who disagree, and we’ll do the same for you.
As for me, I simply call her Josephine…

Edited
How about a mix between the nicknames then?
“Bronze Pearl”? “Black Jazz”?
@Background Pony #299C
Don’t worry. Seems like not a lot of people have brought or done new stuff from her,so we still have time.
