As far as I see it, I agree with cheezedoodle, and I’ve always always believed in the idea of people discrediting or including something they disliked/liked from any vein, and in the end, it’s all fiction so it’s just for fun. Someone liked the comics’ storyline? Good for them, let them integrate it into their hadcanons, or maybe someone liked he toy-only ponies, nothing wrong with that!
People get too nitpicky about ‘canon’ and ‘not canon’ I swear. it’s not a big deal.
@cheezedoodle
Canon doesnt mean official. Toys are offially approved by hasbro but that doesnt make them canon. Canon works hasto be in same continuity or else they’renot canon at all!
The problem is 90% of the people discussing the issue use ‘canon’ incorrectly including yourself. The comics are canon, in that they are official and approved by Hasbro. Whether or not each issue is in the same continuity as the show is open to interpretation.
Some people might seek validation that what they enjoy about the comics is relevant to the show and want to be able to build their headcanons and understanding of Equestria off a common framework between the two (or three, if you include Berrow’s books), while others go the opposite direction, discounting them from any relevancy to discussion of the show.
Both options can be distasteful to either side because you can be told that the thing you hate “really happened” so you have to accept it. The reverse can also be true: you can be told that thing you love “never happened,” so deal with it.
Maybe so, but people use this sort of thing as ammunition in their ongoing war against IDW around here.
Which imo is unnecesary in the first place.
Its simple. No the comics aren’t canon. Yes, people can still enjoy them if they want.
Is the fact that they’re canon such an important requisite to enjoy some of the stories they bring?
EDIT:
It’s a joke for Christ’s sake!
I can’t beleive you guys took this seriously.. :/

Anyway, in the earlier panel he’s delighted to be spending time with the CMC. In the episode, he’s dreading the thought of spending time with Spike and Big Mac.
He probably doesn’t know how any of the games work anyway, and just grabbed the entire contents of a toy store. :)
Comic: Discord wants to hang out with Fluttershy, but she’s with the CMC. Gotta do kiddie stuff for them so Fluttershy doesn’t get mad. Pulls out random board games.
Show: Fluttershy isn’t there at all, no reason for Discord to put up with stupid kiddie game. Would rather do other things.
@orbsah
Applebloom was mad with Discord because here he scared the shit out of her. Are you saying it’s impossible for friends to be annoyed by each other? Just watch 28 Pranks Later.
The problem with it is that in comics he is a friend of CMC so playing board games would be something he would want to do. But he pretty much state in Dungeons and Discords that his frinedship with CMC and Luna was retconned and he doesn’t have any more frineds than Fluttershy and presumably Mane5.
Another dog with that bone

The questionable canon of the comics is a controversial topic.
You should’ve know that making something like this would cause drama.

Could easily still be in line with the show- they could be pissed at him for Tirek or the comic could have taken place after.
Not sure why people get so mad at finding things in the comic lining up with the show sometimes. I think it’s cute.
Of course they where, just a separate canon from the show.
I know it’s just wording but, why can’t people get it right?
