Theory is always good, but practical experience is always better than learning everything about something by writing and reading if you can go out there and do it yourself.

Some ponies learn better by doing, Twilight.
 
What I would do is instruct Starlight to spend time at a potential friend’s home, share pizza with them, talk about mutual interests for 30 minutes, and try not to make it socially awkward.
 
(I have never done any of this myself, but in a fantasy world anythings possible)
