I actually had an interesting discussion with someone else about this topic recently; there are some tags whose intended use is fairly situational, and this is one of them. The featureless crotch tag (and its sister, featureless breasts) is mainly meant to be applied to images of a saucy or suggestive nature, which could easily be seen as explicit if not for the lack of genitalia. In some rare cases, there are otherwise innocent (or at least innocent enough) images which are tagged with “featureless crotch” simply because the crotch is prominently displayed, as I said before, and again would easily be explicit if not for the intentional lack of visible genitalia. But the latter point isn’t even significant here, as the drawing itself clearly has sexual implications; it just gets a “suggestive” pass because there are no naughty bits on-screen.

It’s more meant for fan art, as it’s definitely assumed any “screencap, safe” image will be devoid of breadsticks or bagels. :j

What the point in ‘featureless crotch’ tag? You can add it in every show screenshot and most of safe pictures. No point in it.

I get that; it’s in the source’s description. But for the sake of the booru, the appropriate tags need be applied, and people tend to forget “featureless crotch” on images in which the crotch is prominent but does not contain NSFW details.
