An X-ray machine actually doesn’t require much in the way of technology. Fluoroscope machines were used in shoe shops between the 30s and the 50s for customers and employees to check the fit of shoes. They didn’t use film, but provided a live view. The customer would put on a pair of shoes, stick them into a slot on the bottom, then everyone would look into a viewport, and see the feet and bones in realtime.
 
These machines were highly dangerous as they were made before the dangers of radiation were known. And thus, they had no shielding. When activated they dumped out a ton of radiation. In the end all but a few were recalled and destroyed. The remaining examples are in museums or private collections.
