They can’t only Celestia can defeat twilight
Not really the case here. Silent Dusk is a separate being altogether and she is the one who was hating the mane 6 and Celestia for what they did to Nightmare Moon.
King Sombra: Midnight, can you hear me.

She lets out all of her anguish, destroying everything in the room (except the mind-control helmets on Sombra’s soldiers). Meanwhile, Sombra smirks evilly. Midnight is released from her bindings, and howls in despair.

And midnight sparkle’s transformation is complete
