I mean, people don’t end up in the Make-A-Wish foundation for nothing, and we don’t know why Alexis did.

I have lung asthma typen2 (allergy based) so it kinda ruins my heart too ^^/
That was my point, yes.
It’s not his “OC”, Lauren Faust created discord, I believe even before the show began. Discord is somewhat of a “ponyfication” of Q, with a more villianous bent. Faust is a fan of TNG, and Q, and he was the inspiration for discord.
John De Lancie wasn’t even originally considered for the role, as Lauren did not know if he was available, so she looked for a “sound-a-like”. well, he happened to be available, (much to her delight!), And, the rest is history.
So, in short, discord was created by Faust, before John De Lancie even heard of the show.
Did I say it was just because I wanted to breed with them or possess their feelings? ‘tis impolite to assume such things, mate.
If that’s all I wanted then I could’ve had that by now. But what I’m after is something else and something much deeper than that.
“find my mate”
Other people aren’t there for you to make them your ‘mate’. Get to know people for the sake of knowing them, not because you want to breed with them or think possessing another person’s feelings is going to somehow make you happier.
I was over 18 when it all started. And the prognosis was - well actually I guess it was pretty darn dangerous with the clot. Then the other stuff later wasn’t that dangerous from what it was, but both major incidents after that had complications that made them a lot worse than normal.
Well, yeah, if you had to go through it anyway. But getting their attention at this point would probably require another life-threatening condition, and you hope more for your health than for your fifteen minutes of fame, which is probably considered the right priorities by most.
Well, it certainly wouldn’t have made it any less worthwhile :q
Also, removing your ability to later withdraw is an interesting concept. Mental hospitals have something like that. It’s just kinda weird to think about. Like something that looks backwards and weird on the surface but kinda makes sense if you think about it.
I wasn’t going to say anything of the sort, actually. I just thought it might help put things in perspective. If you really wanted it that bad, that’s up to you, but I was guessing (correctly, as it turns out) that it wouldn’t seem worth it.
@Cirrus Light
I would take that, but only on the condition that there was no way to stop it once it started so that I could be sure I didn’t back out halfway and have it all be for nothing.
Were you going to say something like “you only deserve it if you say ‘no’” or something if I said I would’ve been willing for that?
Seems like a neat kinda thought-provoking answer. Though it doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t that bad if someone says “yes”, they may just really want fandom fame, heh. Which probably wouldn’t be healthy if someone wanted to be loved by a bunch of strangers that badly…
I will say this, though, if I knew for sure it’d lead to fandom fame and because of all the fans I would get I would find my mate that way, then it’d be worth it :q
Makes me think of some time my friends were all playing the “do you click the button” game - one of them was “you get a million dollars, but have to endure 15 minutes of unimaginable torment”. They all started saying “no”, and I was like, “heck yeah. I’ve done that for hours, before! Get on my level, scrubs!”
A 15 minute slice of the worst of my experience is a million times easier than the whole package.
Yeah, that’s pretty much the answer I was expecting.

I think you’re reading a little too much into John’s portrayal. Voicing Discord is a job. The only reason John ended up having anything to do with bronies is due to curiousity, seeing people react negatively to it and feeling that people in the community deserved to be better understood. Odds are good it may have had a little to do with his familiarity with the Trek fandom but I like to believe he’s just a decent guy. Unfortunately the less than stellar people in the fandom torrented their doc and took some of the shine off for them but oh, well. It doesn’t seem to have done any lasting harm since he’s still voicing the role.
All that said I think it’s a stretch to consider Discord DeLancie’s ‘OC’. I very much doubt beyond rehearsing for and voicing the role he thinks of himself as Discord just like I doubt he wears his TNG uniform to bed. Acting is a job. He gets paid to play characters. Discord just happens to be one of them. As to the reason why he gets those roles a lot it’s called ‘typecasting’. He most CERTAINLY is NOT interested in shipping nor do I ever hope to see someone bring it up to him, show him fic or (goodness forbid) show him porn of it.

Nope. Fandom love is tempting, being a guest of honor at a con is alluring, but it’s not worth doing all that.
Like, maybe it’d be worth it if Twilight could be real and I could live in Equestria and we’d get together and she’s how I imagine her and there’s a portal so I can easily go back and forth between the worlds to visit. Like, that’s what it’d take to get me to agree to go through all that again.
Other than becoming an immortal god there’s not much else that could get me to willingly do that again.
It wasn’t fun.

Theoretical question: You could get that wish, but it would mean going having to go back to two years before it happened and go through everything again two years earlier than you previously had in this new timeline. Would you?
Here’s to wishing I was 2 years younger when I had all my life threatening stuff happen. Granted, the procedures didn’t overall have a low success rate, but it was such a huge clot I had to be transferred to a huge research hospital for some newish procedure with two back-to-back surgeries and a venous stent… And that was just the start of my adventures.
I’m not bitter, it’d just be neat to have some fandom fame like that.
His character is always a smug, snarky trickster who doesn’t get killed.
Granted, I only know his roles of Q, Discord, and Alarak, but all of them were like that, and those first two were basically, if not omnipotent, then almost omnipotent, and the third was the leader of probably the most powerful faction in the setting.
And as Discord he did the role, then sometime much later discovered what Bronies were, became a fan of the show, then got his character put back in and half-shipped with Fluttershy (not to start a shipping war on how canon this ship is…).
His consistent streak of playing these kinds of characters makes me wonder if he doesn’t identify with them, and so basically he’s got a character he identifies with voiced by himself made canon and close friends with Fluttershy, if not straight-up shipping.
So, yeah, I think it’d be pretty awesome to have a character I identify with made cannon in the show and shipped with my favorite pony. Unless I do something really crazy and get famous I’ll probably never get that as a physicist, and even then I’d have to be like rock-star Einstein, Tesla, or just Hawking-famous. And by the time I ever pull that off we’ll be in gen 5, so basically I can only ever dream of being in De Lancie’s place :q
What?
I agree. But hey, why not? I got options.
Andrea Libman actually got a degree in Civil Engineering in case her VA career didn’t launch, iirc.
I’m kinda jealous of, say, John De Lancie, though. Getting all those awesome roles and getting his oc canonically inserted and shipped with his waifu.
Oh well. Maybe I’ll achieve my dreams and in the process of changing the nature of being human forever I’ll become famous enough to get canon pony love. Though by then it’ll be gen 5 and I’ll have a real life “waifu”, anyways. I hope. :q
What I mean to say is being a big VA is a dream come true but a bit like winning a lottery. Good luck :p
Ah.
I wanna stretch my legs at voice acting one day.
The character here was designed and voiced by its creator, a girl who’s been having congenital heart problems for some time. Make A Wish foundation reached out to her during her last episode of heart surgery and she asked for her OC to be included in the show and if she could have a voice role. She got in, she got to say a few lines, and make good on her dream of being a VA; or at least to get close to it.
She is doing well, last I checked.
