Playing cards was very popular pasttime when I was growing up. I had my favourite face cards and favourite decks, some vintage and rare. The colours and design for those two Queens are based on popular face motif. It was super fun to make.
Twilight Sparkle has now two powerful allies and protégés. And who is better suited to gather all unique magical talents under her wing, if not Element of Magic herself?
You probably know I wholeheartedly disagree about “Starlight is just copy of Sunset” statement. I see them both as unique, very interesting characters with completely different motivations for turning bad and very different personalities. Most striking difference is how well Sunset handles her friendships now, while Starlight stays socially awkward and deeply introverted.

Exactly. Almost 2 years after sunsets debut, another evil pony with a suspiciously similar name is introduced with the intention of filling the role that sunset can’t.
Sunset proved successful but they couldn’t very well take her out of EQG so a new character was created but with enough differances in idealogy and motivation to be a fresh spin.
A prudent move on the behalf of hasbro and the writers.
It’s alright dude. Both characters owe their existance to trixie anyway. She was the proto counterpart and the fandoms adoration and fascination with her inspired the writers to start creating official counterparts.

I messaged Mildgyth about it, and s/he removed it not long after. Apparently s/he isn’t familiar with English card suits.

Created to fill in for Sunset? Sunset is a main character and Starlight was only secondary. They don’t have anything in common other than they were both evil unicorns that got reformed.
I know right? What does a slimy insect woman from a strategy game have to do with this pic at all?

Starlight is more of a student who is learning the meaning of friendship.
Sunset had the evil scared out of her. After RR she was more of an independent character (even if she ruined three characters lives to get it) and thus is mentoring Human Twilight.
