I agree nothing wrong with a fake pumpkin
It’s possible. I wouldn’t blame the artist for using one. These kind of carvings are a lot of work, and it’s a shame to do such a good job on them, only to have the pumpkin rot away
Edit: Just checked the source, the artist says it’s a fake pumpkin. I thought it looked too clean, smooth and shiny to be a real one, but figured it was still possible to be real.

The clean foam-like nature of the pumpkin was what I was refering to
While it could be one of those perma-pumpkins they make to carve (it is awfully clean and shiny) it still could be a real one. If you mean it’s fake because of the carving, I assure you, that can be done. I’ve done it myself.
