Because they see him as their kind,romantic,handsome husbando that will sweep them off their feet and into a fairytale romance where his life revolves around doting on them and telling them how wonderful they are and how they saved him from the awful rival girl.It’s a teen movie romance. He can’t be a jerk to her because he is handsome and sweet and perfect to them. They believe it was something they did wrong to upset him.

It also lost a few shippers after Spitfire was a bitch to him in Rainbow Falls.
 
Oddly, Soarin’ can be a dick to Dashie and the shippers don’t decrease at all.
