Hey, call them whatever you like. But please, let’s let the tags follow official material. We’re not the owners of the characters.  
Canon names are usually better than fanon, IMO anyways  
(And Minuette > Colgate forever)

Honestly, I don’t get why some people make such a big deal about using official names over fan-made ones. It’s probably because they’re used to them.  
Frankly, they’re just names someone wrote on the wiki back at the beginning of 2011. It’s not like the had any importance at all…  
Can’t we just get used to their official names?

And I think the situation is just fine keeping Amethyst Star separated from Sparkler.  
As for Twinkle, Twinkleshine being her full name is good. Spares us from discussions over official names.

Yeah, I try to add BOTH names as tags sometimes, but eventually someone just deleted the ‘wrong’ name overnight. :/
 
I can see Sparkler being confused with the G1 pony though, but you could just specify Sparkler, G1, when you search.
 
Same with this Cadence/Cadance thing..

^Honestly I think those are still their more accepted names.  
No idea why some names won out as tags, but what Derpibooru uses is not neccessarily the same as what the community uses. Never saw anyone use Shoeshine over Linky actually, and the people who use Amethyst Star over SParkler are a tiny minority.
 
We should have massive Derpibooru get-togethers / threads about the names, like in the good old days.
