Oh yes, that’s some good stuff right there, although it’s a bit of a short one. I love how they’d introduce the more fantastic and archaic elements of the toy line into the Tales universe as dream elements or stories within the story, or altitude sickness, or… whatever the hell that thing is that Patch does. I still would have liked them to link the universes together somehow.
[voiceover, gravel-voiced; epic kettle drums] In in the time after the fall of Dream Castle, and before the coming of the two Pony Sisters, the legendary Pony Friends came. Seven ordinary little ponies, yet destined to reunite the scattered shards of sociability and restore the ancient, suppressed magic of the world! This is the time of their beginning. Let me tell you of their time of wonder.
[brightly and happily] ♫ Starlight, Sweetheart, Melody / Bright Eyes, Patch, and Clover / … ♫”
… but yeah. One for the fanfic writers maybe.
By the way, I think Ponyland Press would be very interested in hosting any photos or scans you might want to share: http://www.ponylandpress.com/library/comics. Their archive is incomplete, but wonderful to browse through.
To confess, it was I who asked for this one to originally be posted on Heck Yeah Pony Scans! back in February 2013 - there was literally no other legible Tales comic content on the internet at the time.
I do in fact own this issue now - I assume you’re aware of ‘Princess Sparkle’s Party’, or, as I prefer to call it, ‘Sweetheart’s Accidental Bedtime Acid Trip’?
Either way, I still remember some kind of story in another comic titled ‘Patch the Inventor’. ‘Patch the Adventurer’ was in issue 43 of MLP and Friends, while ‘Patch the Clown’ (the only comic story where she aspires towards public goofiness) is in the next issue (MLP and Friends 44, or the ‘nefarious Valentine’s Day issue’), so it seems natural for the writers to complete a ‘Patch Trinity’ displaying her personality traits.
