Just a few hours now, will we make it in time?

The tradition was to slap yet another new digit on the previous year’s version. It was a running gag. When the years up to 2016 came to an end, someone took the current year’s version and edited it for the following year.
 
2013 is an edit of John Joseco’s original 2012.  
2014 is an edit of 2013.  
2015 is an edit of 2014.  
2016 is an edit of 2015.
 
So you have a 6 on a 5 on a 4 on a 3 on the original 2. If you look closely, you can see traces of the previous years’ digits on the 2016 version.
 
2017 was the combo breaker because it’s a direct edit of the 2012 original instead of the edit of the 2016 edit of the 2015 edit of the 2014 edit of the 2013 edit of the 2012 original that we halfway expected.

So do we make the 2018 one out of the 2017 one (which is a straight edit of the original) or out of the 2016 one (which is an edit of the 2015 one, which is an edit of the 2014 one and so forth)?

We’re getting close to the 2018 greeting…

This rather looks like an edit of the original.
 
I expected an edit of 2016 (which AFAIK actually is an edit of 2015 which is an edit of 2014…) just to continue the running joke properly.
 
Nonetheless, this seems to have turned into this fandom’s Dinner For One, just not as funny.

Sigh.We could use a new one.
