Flim’s fork clinked as it rested on his plate for the final time. The tiramisu had been delicious. He glanced sidelong at Lucky Clover and saw the older stallion’s eyes meet his, unreadable as ever.
“Well?” Despite everything, Lucky’s voice was still as cold as it had been when they’d first met. At least he wasn’t dropping a crate on Flim and his brother this time.
“Very good. Thank you,” Flim managed. The corners of Lucky’s mouth tightened, and the unicorn coughed. Not even in an informal setting, apparently. “Uh, Thank you, sir.”
From the dour stallion’s other side, Flam laughed. “You know, brother of mine, I think this is the happiest I’ve ever seen him!”
“Ya know, I think he’s right!” chuckled Silver Shill. The earth pony puffed happily on his cigar, grinning like a maniac and giving Flam a bing wink. “We need to commemorate this; the boys back at the office will never believe it!”
Flim groaned as his twin’s horn flared and lifted a boxy old camera– the same one his brother had been tinkering with for the better part of a month. Silver and and Flam had planned this. Of course they had. The duo had been FAR too quiet during dinner, and this was clearly why.
The young stallion glanced at Lucky for help, but the senior agent was strangely quiet. Another test, then. Flim sighed. Time to be the voice of reason. “Flam, did you seriously bring that old thing? I’m not paying for damages if it blows up in our faces. Again.”
“Don’t be a negative Nellie, Flim. Have some faith in your big brother!” Flam grinned and clicked the shutter.
On the bright side, the camera didn’t explode until AFTER it took the photo.”
