Turns out Moondancer’s magical letter-sender-best-friend is neither Fizzle or Ember, but rather this cuddly wuddly little Ursa Minor! I haven’t thought of a name for the little guy, though. I swear if you all start calling him ‘Dipper’-
Instead of having to hatch a dragon egg to pass her entrance exam, Moondancer was to cast an animation spell on a doll, make it act on its own without manipulating it with levitation. Like with Twilight, her magical totally flops and she seemingly fails her examination, that is until musical Lyra-induced shenanigans causes the Crystal Heart (which just happens to be in close radius to the School) to activate, creating a brief shockwave that knocks Moondancer into super-duper-magic-mode.
Her favourite doll, an Ursa Minor teddy bear, was caught in her magical area of effect, turning into an actual freaking Ursa Minor. Flurry Heart takes notice, wooshes over to the School, flicks off Moondancer’s power switch, and undoes the damage. However, the Ursa Teddy stays alive and kicking, albeit many times smaller than a true Ursa Minor. Intrigued by Moondancer’s power to create life, Flurry Heart takes her under her wing, to hone that power, while at the same time keeping it in check.
Keeping the teddy was just a bonus. :P
Help me name him oh my Celestia
I think ‘Spark’ works.
Fun facts about Moondancer’s Ursa Teddy!
-he had a brief crush on Bonbon, before realising he was barking up the wrong tree
-he has a crush on Twinkleshine, which nobody really minds (she’s a model, there are plenty of ponies with crushes on her)
-he’s unique in that he was the only Ursa Minor teddy bear in Equestria, being a gift from a friend of Moondancer’s parents
-he once had an existential crisis on whether or not he’s a truly living being, and he set out to find his maker for answers
-he’s also an expert cuddlebuddy
That was who I thought when I came up with the Lune name idea. :)
This magical cat named Luna
I love the Ursa Minor Teddy. He’s adorable.
Speaking of names. I think I’ve got a few in mind. And there’s no ‘Dipper’.
Orion. It’s another well-known constellation which is known to have three stars indicating his belt.
Lune. Which is the male form of Luna. As in Princess Luna and the moon on his forehead.
Artemis. A Unisex name. As in Artemis Fowl the book series, with the title character and antihero is male.
And how about Sirius? The brightest star in the night sky. It also means ‘dog’, but that’s not why it came to mind.
I would have called him Dipper.
How does he send letters? Tosses them into his galaxy and it pops out of the sky wherever it’s needed, often mistaken for a falling star?
