I got it! Sunny and Shimmy are both secretly descendants of Celestia’s lineage, while Twily and Glimmy both descend from Luna’s lineage. Although, Twily’s lineage could also have some Celestia heritage within it given her brother’s white complexion and, y’know, the fact that she’s named after the time between day and night.

I don’t think this is really that much of a crack ship. I could easily see Twily going for a nerdy guy like Sunburst.
 
I just got this strange mental image of Sunburst and Sunset Shimmer somehow being related, though. They should have Sunburst go to the EQG world sometime with Glimmer and explore the possibility of a relation between Sunny and Shimmy. Cousins? Siblings separated at birth?

No, I meant if she found out her childhood friend was dating her mentor, her reaction would be priceless. She may not be interested in Sunburst as a coltfriend, but I think the idea of somepony being closer to him than she is would irk her. I do think she’d come around, though.

When was Starlight acting erratically? Do you mean when she was meeting someone whom she hadn’t seen in a long time for the first time in years? Believing he was some sort of big important wizard? If so, of course she was nervous, it was the first time she had met him in years. Second, I imagine if she did have a crush on him as a filly, she would have long moved on by then. I mean, it would be ultra creepy if she didn’t.

Except Starlight Glimmer is not indicated to have romantic feelings for Sunburst. There’s no reason to assume she’d get upset, or even jealous, other than the fandom’s insistence that every character with a close relationship is secretly in love.
