@Zharkaer
Actually, some have done similar things in the past. Dunno if they do that on the Pony comic tho’.
Like the (dare I bring it up) Cuteosphere OC cameo being inserted in the comic, was writer Ted Anderson’s fault, as he had artist Ben Bates draw it for him. So it’s not always the artist’s fault for these kinda things, but who knows.
@Zharkaer
The writer and/or editor tells the comic artist what to draw. Whether in person, or in a script.
What? You think artists always just draw whatever the hell they want with no guidance? You guys seriously need to learn how comic books are made.
@dynamicv
Yeah, I don’t think he, the editor, or writer, or whoever saw said pic meant to steal. Normally, they’re very strict about not using fan-made material, so I assume they mistook it for official art, much like Sega/Sumo did.
the artist wasn’t upset, and found the situation flattering
IIRC something like this happened in issue 2 of the Micro series, where Tony Fleecs used an image of Rainbow Dash’s bedroom as a reference without realizing it was fan art because it was so well done it looked like a real show location.
@soundtea
I suppose they look a li’l uncanny, but I dunno.
@Masem
I remember Sega & Sumo Digital awhile back mistook a fanart piece for an official art, and used it in a game. (They removed it, and apologized to the fanartist with a neat giftbasket. Ironically, the artist wasn’t upset, and found the situation flattering.) Could be the people who work on the comic could’ve done the same mistake.
I wouldn’t fault Fosgitt alone though, as the comic editor, and/or writer tell the artist what to draw, and could be equally, or more-so responsible.
I’d want to give Jay the benefit of the doubt (given that Hasbro had to check this) that he may have though EqPrev’s drawing was official; the armor parts could be extrapolated from the outfit, but the headpieces are too exact a match to be coincidence.

Pretty sure writers don’t normally pick out specific reference images like this

Why would the writer have anything to do with this?

Kinda reminds me of when he used clip art for a cutie mark.
More than likely, yes.
But again, Hasbro’s also supposed to be checking these too.
Google “My Little Pony Armor”
That pic is right on the first page. Bet that Fosgitt just hit google and picked the first pretty result.

Unless EqPrev’s working for Hasbro now…
I know, just a funny-looking coincidence that deletion was.
Full page scans aren’t allowed past previews. This can be used however for a comparison. I have the original in the first comment.
AutobotsPonies roll out!(Cue kickass ’80s rock ballad theme song.) YOU GOT THE TOUCH! YOU GOT THE POWER!
Actually, Fosgitt just copied an old fanart.
