Description

The police move in, but Dazzling Midnight teleports away. It’s an unusual, somewhat explosive teleportation. She may not be the lowly lackey that they expected.

The sting operation is a failure.

  1. that’s why I say accounting is more politics than numbers. you should inform the police, and let them investigate, then fire him much later. if you fire the guy first, suddenly any documents connecting him to the other embezzlers start getting accidentally incinerated.

  2. and and then he uses his wristwatch computer to call for backup before turning his pen into a gun and then jumping out of a moving airplane which explodes behind him while he sips at his martini

  3. “okay so when I told you about their next heist, I probably should have mentioned the police chief was their ringleader before anypony went to go report it.”

  1. I would fire someone involved in embezzling right away, but that may be the accountant in me talking.

  2. Static doesn’t have it in him to pull a trick like that. He is totally inexperienced here. He’s an honest guy with a boring job who never asked for any of this. That is his character struggle.

  3. Relying on Night Cap has never, ever worked out for anyone. But someone’s bound to be the first, right?

  1. oh I wasn’t debating if they had grounds for arrest. I just have the completely baseless opinion that it’d have been better to look into it further before arresting her. it’s like if you knew someone involved in embezzling, so you have them fired right away, figuring that’ll fix the problem. not a good move, despite being legally able to make it.

  2. in that case he can say “go! I’ll handle this.” then the cops can give him a slap on the wrist, thus demonstrating his control of the keep’s defense, ability to act above the law, and loyalty to COIN. I’m such a good backseat roleplayer! *munches peanuts*

  3. has relying on night cap ever worked out well for anypony?

@redweasel
We did have a discussion about this afterwards, so it’s not just you. A few of us wondered if this escalated too quickly. Had Dazzling Midnight even done anything illegal yet?

We did eventually agree that this was necessary, because:

  1. The break-in was an inside job. COIN had recruited insiders to sabotage the Keep’s security. They’d recruited Static’s supervisor. And Dazzling Midnight had tried to recruit Static. To help with a crime. She may not do the dirty work but she is a criminal.

  2. Static had personally taken part in the Keep’s defense. Therefore he couldn’t just play dumb here. The secret was out on both sides. It wasn’t impossible that Dazzling Midnight might seek some kind of reprisal.

  3. If we really want to know what COIN are up to, can’t we just ask Night Cap?

seems like kind of a douche move, without context of the campaign. far as you’ve drawn, it’s the closest anypony in COIN ever came to actually talking with the players, rather than just sneaking past them and attacking them, or being interrogated. and the first thing the player does is set them up? missed opportunity calling the police in this early.

do they even know what COIN is trying to do? other than “evil ponies attack us, hit them until they stop moving.” that’d be a good thing to draw in comic form, one of those interrogations, with flashbacks and stuff.

I’d have staged an assault on one of the cops, shouting for dazzling to go after knocking them prone, so that if she escaped, she’d trust me even more the next time we met.
