So, if you’ve been following closely, you know that eventually Topaz and Sombra split into two separate beings. Without trying to spoil too much of Pearl’s ask blog, Sombra was created from Topaz, but he was able to manifest his own form and was able to split into a complete separate being from his original host.
 
With Pearl and Topaz becoming a couple, Sombra was left to find his own destiny–yet he always found himself returning back to the company of both Pearl and Topaz. See, Sombra knew Pearl as closely as Topaz did, if not even more. Eventually he did court Princess Luna and became her husband, but mentioned to his new spouse of his dilemma and conflicting feelings. His feelings were more toward Pearl than her husband, but Luna simply told him that polyamory was common in the Crystal Empire, and that as long it was mutual between everypony in the group, then she was fine with it.
 
Sombra doesn’t spend much time with Pearl, even less with Topaz due to their history together. Pearl always seems to be happy when Sombra was around and getting along with Topaz. He enjoys Pearl’s nurturing side and enjoys sitting her children and is almost like a second father to them, although the three try and insure he’s not called father by any of the younglings. Due to his connection to Topaz, sometimes he’s even called Uncle.
