@rimalogo
The few art pieces there are mostly mock how he looks like he’s trying too hard.
He’s a comic character, and his design isn’t that cool or memorable. I mean, a gray unicorn in a drab hooded cloak? Enh.
At higher res, the book’s title is “Marsh Attacks”, so it’s definitely a ref.
MAN! (dramatic sting)
True, but like I said, once I read the full second part of the arc when it comes out either tomorrow or next week, I’ll better understand what Shadow Lock’s intentions are and whether he’s exaggerating, or has every right to not tell Twilight of what he’s doing for fear of putting her and the rest of Equestria in danger if he does.
Depends on what exactly he’s trying to prevent. If this is one of those “knowledge of it makes it stronger” kind of deals like Freddie Krueger or Slenderman tben he’s right not to tell Twilight.
If knowledge of it has zero effect on its power or existence then he’s kinda screwing everyone over from his own delusions.
What do you fear, Shadowlock? What is it that you fear so much you believe a plan to erase all records (and memories) regarding it will succeed in stopping it?
I’m sure when I get the second part of the arc, the whole thing will clear up some of the confusion I still got over Shadow Lock’s plan.
Ack ack!
If it is some kind of mind-virus that gets stronger when more ponies become aware of it, then his plan to destroy all history books makes sense.
Shadow Lock can’t afford to pick and choose which books to target, because then he would have to read them all and risk infecting himself, if that matters.
And even if it doesn’t matter because he is already infected or immune to it, he would still have to erase all books because of the memory wipe effect of his spell. He would instantly forget that the book he just erased contained the evil, and he would never know when he was done. He would have to constantly re-check every single book in existence until he was sure there was no trace of the thing.
Or maybe I’m overthinking this and reading all books would just take way too long, and erasing them indiscriminately is the only effective way to defeat the evil within his lifetime. It’s not like he can recruit others to help him sort through books, that would lead to more ponies reading about the thing, which is exactly what he’s trying to prevent.

Anyway, not explicitly bad motivation, but seems a bit too broad in scope.
Killing all written history is rarely a good idea.
If it’s a villain that’ll return regardless of knowledge of it then he’s kind of shooting everyone in the foot here.
Well I’m intrigued.
Bahahahaha! Oh that is too good. He’s definitely a fanatic that one.
He’s trying to erase THE GAME.

He’s a fanatic. Fanatics tend to not align well with the reality.
