Loved alien. Loved aliens. The first one was definitely better though. In the sequal, The alien went from a “structually perfect organism” described as the perfect survivor, to a videogame enemy.

While the colonial marines themselves were a great addition to the lore, I kinda miss the almost lovecraftian menace and mystique the alien had.

I have to disagree, Aliens was meant from the start to, essentially, be a different movie. Aliens is a critique on modern military intervention against peoples with simpler technology, e.g. The Vietnam War (the war the film is parodying), you don’t even have to go that far back. look at the modern world, In London, a guy with a knife kills half a dozen people before he is killed. Its the single-mindedness, the total lack of fear the bugs show, the fact they cant be stopped, you end up saying “Why are we loosing? We have all this technology and resources.” That’s the scary part of Aliens, how do you fight someone or some thing that doesn’t care about its self or others, will gladly sacrifice 100’s just to kill (or preferably capture) one of you They cant be reasoned with, cant be bargained with, cant be controlled and absolutely will not stop!

Maybe TJ and Badumsquish will go in a war with cute cannons; the cannons are their pencils, the cannonballs are their drawings and the drawings will not harm (unless you consider diabeetus. :p)

Well as someone who actually enjoyed the first three films (Yes, I did enjoy Alien 3. It’s got its flaws, some of which I felt were unnecessary, but I still found it enjoyable and had a good sense of the Alien world.) I have to say, yes. If someone in the first movie had a gun and had the alien in their sites, then yes, the alien would die. I mean, it’s the same thing for the raptors of Jurassic Park. That’s why the only guy with a gun and training with it was killed off. Well that and because he forgot how clever the raptors were.

Have trained soldiers come in heavily armed and they can put up a fight just like they did in the movie. As well, I wasn’t honestly surprised that the aliens had a bug like cycle. I mean, it’s an insectoid creature that lives like a wasp: laid inside a live host and bursts its way out when its ready.

Them being able to kill a lot of them doesn’t detract from the first movie because they didn’t have those resources. None of them knew what they were up against and no real way to defend themselves.

I must be the only person on Earth who didn’t care for any of the Alien films, but feels that Alien Isolation is an absolute masterpiece of horror, and maybe the best horror game ever made.

I am a huge fan of the Aliens vs Predator type universe, mostly what came out of the video games in the early 2000s
The Aliens and Colonial Marines are somewhat equally matched while the Predators have a technological advantage…
Goodness I spent so much of my college days playing the first two AvP games on PC, I just loved wall crawling as a alien so much and trying to sneak up on my buddies as they played the marines…

That reminds me of how much I loved the idea of Queen Chrysalis being the Xenomorph Queen, her hive being the endless army of stealthy wall crawling drones and somehow her grubs being facehuggers.
Changeling and Aliens crossovers ftw.

Every sequel has half the substance, at best, cinematically and artistically, of the prior film in the series.

Thus, Rocky was a decent film, but Rocky II was already plumbing the depths of self-parody, and by Rocky V it’s Mystery Science Theater 3000 time.

So it is with Star Wars. So it is with Star Trek. So it is with Aliens. So it is with the James Bond films, which have badly needed a laughtrack since the Roger Moore days. There are no exceptions to this rule. None.

Hey, Hollywood. Please stop strip-mining the corpse of 1970s pop-culture (seriously, I am still half-convinced that the live-action “Scooby Doo” film was a hoax; I refuse to watch any portion of it) and plagiarizing yourselves by ripping off your own films with increasingly craptacular sequels. Knock it off with the worn-out crap, I say. Do something original and change your evil ways. You’ve got more money than some countries yet you’ve been creatively bankrupt since 1985, if not earlier. Surely you can afford to hire some new writers. Maybe outsource your scriptwriting, production, and editing to India, like everyone else is doing with everything else, and make everything Bollywood style.

@Ping_chan
My controversial opinion is that only Alien was good.

Aliens isnt a bad movie but it’s a far cry from the tense, disturbing and carefully constructed thriller that is Alien. It’s really more of a piece of Alien fanfiction and I somewhat resent it for permently watering down the parts of Alien I liked.

I think in a way Cameron knew he was altering the canon so he could stick to his strong suite which was action. There’s a scene that’s so meta its almost comical.

Ripley tries to explain to the marines what theyre facing after they express boredom at killing just “more bugs” implying they regularly fight insectiod aliens. After she explains the Xenomorph one of them ignorantly scoffs “Sounds like bugs to me”

We’re meant to sympathize with Ripley because we saw what an unstoppable monster the Xenomorph is and feel her exasperation at how stupid these soldiers are for underestimating them…

…but in the end theyre 100% right. The Xenos in Aliens are just bugs. They have a colony and a queen and drones and workers and really theyre not very dangerous at all as individuals.

They only got the upper hand through sheer numbers and a lack of ammo.

It implies that if the original Xenomorph from aliens came up against someone with a gun the movie would just end there as its easily dispatched.

Just a controversial rant. Aliens is dumb. Alien was cooler. Alien Isolation was cooler. Less is more

I await my execution.

If the Alien Covenant movies end in a way that completely and flawlessly tie up with the older Alien and Aliens movies I’ll be very impressed.
The style of the movi…
Oh what am I complaining about, I only really liked Alien and Aliens, every movie after that were so different in many ways that I don’t even know what’s canonical in the Alien franchise.
