Unfortunately, that is apparently “news” to some people as some don’t realize that whenever they put down this fandom, (just ‘cause they had a bad experience with one or two bronies) or others. Same for those that romanticize this fandom into a “utopia,” when it isn’t.
 
I agree about the Sonic thing. It’s ok to not like things, but unfortunately some tend to be a jerk about it. A guy here used to give me crap for being a “Sanik fan” and for defending good or tolerable Sonic-related pics. A guy whom claimed “all Sonic fanart was bad” challenged me to show him good ones. I did, but no matter what I showed him he still said they were bad no matter what, so I just called him out on that, and gave up. (And some were probably better then the Pony pics in his favorites.)
 
Biased people like that ironically act no better then brony/pony-haters they demand more respect from. Plus demonizing other fanbases doesn’t make our’s look better. (In fact, it upsets bronies who like other things too.)

Yeah, there is a fairly high level of douche-baggery fandom wide people don’t want to admit. Good, bad, and ugly in abundance all alike. (I’m ready to face palm when someone defensively says “every fandom is like that” as if that’s news)
 
Stuff like the character hate, for example Sonic as you mentioned. People have a right to like or dislike as they see fit but I can also opine that it is pretty weak to trash even good quality art unto itself just because of a disliked character or some other superficial bullocks.

I think honestly those characters have more personality then she does. Sunset feels very generic to me honestly. (I don’t hate her tho’.)

I don’t know, Derpibooru can be pretty biased on some subjects too. Like when the Twilicorn, & the first EqG movie drama started, nearly everyone here jumped on those hate-bandwagon, and those that didn’t, or had mixed feelings on ‘em, or were neutral were given alot of crap for not going with “popular opinion.” (I was here when all that crap happened… Ah, the good ol’ days of being called a “Hasdrone,” if you showed any form of positivity.)  
Not to mention anytime an image by IDW comic artist Jay Fosgitt, or a Sonic-related fanart piece slips onto the site, people here go nuts with frothing hate. Even people who like those things are afraid to discuss them now, or the ones that do go overboard defending them at times. I even saw somebody here putting down Mando & Sibsy recently…

There is quite a bit of hate on page one here.
 
As for the ND, it has nothing to do with numbers. The ND is almost 100% useless for helping EQD out in any way. It’s just a fun place for people to blabber about whatever each night. It didn’t hurt nightly roundups at all.
 
I think people forget that the vast majority of EQD is not commenting. We typically get around 400-600k monthly unique visitors between the app and site, and only a few hundred actually frequently comment. That’s just how sites tend to work.

I don’t see the problem.

Criticism does not necessarily equal hate. Nor is saying how you used to like something more because of X, Y, or Z. Nobody is being discouraged from visiting or liking it if they elect.

That is nonsense. There is a Trixie or a bat maybe once a week. I barely ever talk about Trixie, and she’s literally everywhere now due to her role in the show.

True. Though that doesn’t bother me quite as much though. || My main things are the chronic spam clique-ism on the ND, the fact that aforementioned shitfest NDs pretty much siphoned a lot of the (far more interesting) Roundups’ viewership and they’re ok with that because numbers, and that the pre-2016 mod team was far superior. ||
 
But I’m not tellin’ anyone what to do with their site, I’m just a snarky yellow horse.

I’d say Derpibooru is like the balance between EQD’s goofiness and /mlp/’s cynicism, creating a somewhat natural (dare I say, equal) balance.

I wouldn’t say “no real reason”. I used to love EqD. I mean I went there more than I even checked my email. What it became is just not very loveable to me. For example the 1000th nightly discussion “celebration” was more about celebrating a fairly small close knit group of regulars rather than the hundreds if not thousands of people who have contributed to it for nearly 3 years. I sensed that, call me nuts if you want. Depressing. Even the derpibooru community pic seemed more inclusive.
 
But don’t let me stray too far off topic. Trixie, bat ponies, Trixie, bat ponies.
