The cobweb, man! Don’t you see? :D
There’s also the very reasonable fear that if she’d told Twilight about this study, Twilight wouldn’t be able to resist rummaging through it. My impression is that Celestia maintained the room exactly as it was as a sort of memorial to Star Swirl, and having her hyperactive (or is hypercurious the better term?) student just going through his things willy-nilly probably wouldn’t sit well with her.
As for the two castles, there’s no reason both couldn’t be in use at the same time. Maybe the castle in the Everfree was built first, but became more of a vacation palace after the seat of government moved to Canterlot. Then after the coup attempt, Celestia abandoned it due to the bad memories it rekindled.
Yeah, just look at your average Transformer. Being thousands of years old and getting used to doing things a certain way tends to make it difficult to change, and being so ancient also means a lot more stuff that can get forgotten. Heck, in the original cartoon, Optimus Prime had completely forgotten who’d built him, and was stunned when he was reminded of it.
I don’t like that. I love Celestia. If I was a bit more unstable, I’d be like ChyrsalisLover, but with Celestia.
Ah well, I can just chalk it up to the way immortality can allow stupid hang-ups to last far longer than they normally could.
How odd it still fits perfectly.
And I thought the Starswirl archive was that lower place with a giant hourglass.
Edited
Now I find out it was all simply due to pure incompetence. :/
@MadVillan
It’s not the first time the comics have made that mistake. Fiendship is Magic #4 showed Celestia living in a fully developed Canterlot at the time of Luna’s banishment. It’s also worth noting that Fiendship is Magic #3 showed Canterlot as ancient Rome. IDW’s right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.
Could be something she developed outside of Celestia’s school. Or something that Twilight never thought of asking Celestia about.
Yes, I’m more sure it’s just a long-term oversight between the various writers, but it’s something that could be explained without extreme retconing.
I give your mental gymnastics around an oversight by the comic writers 7/10.
Besides, Twilight took Cadance to a Starswirl convention in an actual episode that would clearly contradict that idea.
All of the posters and accurate costumes meant nothing?
Twilight, outwardly, showed more interest in magic itself than the magic users, so perhaps Celestia didn’t show that. Whereas Sunburst seems more interested in the history of magic and thus a more appropriate request.
Comic logic at it’s finest.
I thought they built it?
… I’m just really messy. Like, really really. I put bells on my robes so they’re easier to find in all this clutter.
