That’s a terrible analogy. A more accurate comparison would be a single short commercial for a brand of potato chips that wasn’t very good, but you haven’t seen the other commercials and the bag is perfectly fine.

A dull gray bag with no notable color or name to catch people’s attention

Atop of that when you open the bag (which is a cheaply made bag) it is accompanied by an annoying sqeek  
And an unpleasant odor.
 
But on the back of the bag it says we assure you the potatoes that these chips are made from tasete amazing, don’t let the bag fool you.
 
And we know those potatoes taste amazing and will taste amazing  
So why nit make a bag of potato chips to show how amazing it will be.

If you’re talking about the Ice Age teasers featuring Scrat, the first one, at least, was made solely to be the opening sequence of the movie; in fact, that was originally going to be the entirety of Scrat’s screen time, but he and the teaser trailer proved so unexpectedly popular that Blue Sky Studios rushed through a few more scenes with him to scatter throughout the movie. The later Ice Age teasers were almost certainly developed with an eye towards using them as teaser trailers, but they likewise were used in their respective movies.
 
Not that that’s terribly relevant to the subject at hand, of course.
 
Anyway, yeah: whoever made this teaser messed up badly on the rendering. However, it’s not the worst teaser ever made, it does not look like a product of Windows Moviemaker, it’s not proof that the movie’s going to suck or that Lionsgate doesn’t care about it, and it’s not going to doom the movie to lose money at the box office. (Actually, regarding that last one: the movie has always been highly likely to make much less in box office receipts than it will cost to make and promote it, but as long as the merchandise sells well enough to make up the difference, Hasbro will be happy.)

I’m well aware. I’ve already come across him in multiple teaser related posts. The problem I have with him is less the actual notion that he thinks everything is doomed to failure from a 30 second video, but rather more with the fact that he’s reacting to this like a kid throwing a tantrum. He keeps reiterating this ridiculous rant over and over again almost the point of spamming and has even gone to the length of making inflammatory image posts (such as this one) to further his point. In all honestly, though, I wouldn’t have a problem with his inane view if he just stopped trying to shove it in our faces.

One bad first impression? Yeah, the movie’s gonna be worse than Foodfight, it’s gonna cause DHX to close down, and it’s gonna be directly responsible for the start of WWIII, there’s no going back now.

It’s one thing to say that not everyone is a fan of the teaser trailer, but claiming that the teaser actually put off a significant number of people from wanting to watch to film is taking it too far. The video you provided only features one group of people (who likely aren’t fans of MLP), and by no means do their reactions reflect the thoughts of every viewer out there. Most fans I’ve come across, even the ones who disliked the teaser trailer, are still looking forward to the movie (admittedly, the comments from the art director and other members of the crew certainly helped).

THE MOVIE’S MADE FOR CHILDREN, AND SO IS THE TRAILER. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT ADULTS THINK OF THE TRAILER AS LONG AS THEIR KIDS WANT TO SEE IT.  
And before you accuse me of using the “it’s for kids” excuse, this is a trailer, and trailers are only meant to advertise, so it’s not the same as me saying that only kids opinions on the movie matter.

So were the ones for the MLP Movie teaser. I think you’re being a little too critical here; even with the animation error, the complexity of the teaser still far surpasses anything one could make in a program like Windows Moviemaker. Despite the setbacks, the teaser trailer still accomplished what it set out to do: catch people’s attention and make them aware of the upcoming movie. This is only a 30 second clip, mind you.

Teaser trailers rarely have any significant footage from the movie; even the Ice Age teasers, which are taken from the movie, focus on Scrat rather than the main characters.

I don’t interpret the image as a literal representation of how blurry the trailer is because I understand hyperbole.
 
Isn’t there a submission process? Shouldn’t the advertising company run the trailer by the studio before releasing it?
