Not just that. The studio took direct orders from them and made changes to the movie and script multiple times throughout production.  
We got Grubber because the voice actor had a friend in the higher-ups and those same people told the screenwriters to add in a character for him, post approval. As just one example. You can hear all about it in the interview about the movie.  
Also, ALL designs and changes have to go through a Lionsgate rep before they can do anything with it. You know, seeing as how Lionsgate is footing the bill for the movie.
