wtf this is so cute

the 5 ponies were fiends before twilight came in, remember how they know some things form the other, like the butterfly inmigration of fkuttershy or applejack knowing the pinkie senses of pinkie pie, but wha is odd is they look the same what are those teenagers ponies???

This little scene has got to be one of the most adorable scenes in this show, so far. The five friends frolicking in the foreground is disgustingly cute. It actually kinda hurt, first time seeing it.

Somehow, SOME HOW, I have seen this episode thrice and only now actually noticed Celestia there in the background. All my attention previously went to the five friends and finding it just a tiny bit odd how overly happy AJ and Dash were looking.

They’re all acting so bouncy and girlish here that I was honestly surprised to see screencaps of the scene and realize that they don’t actually have a younger body model.

Flutter Brutter pretty solidly established that Dash and Fluttershy have been friends for ages, and Feeling Pinkie Keen that they’ve all known Pinkie for a long time; mostly the show just doesn’t bother with backstory all that often.

I always thought that Celestia set up the first episode’s meeting. After all, just showing up with have her meet Pinkie, AJ was in charge of desserts instead of the Cakes despite them owning Sugar Cube Corner, Rainbow Dash was the only Pegasus in charge of cloud busting that day, Rarity was in charge of decorations despite being a tailor, and Fluttershy was in charge of music instead of the muscians in Ponyville and her crippling shyness.
 
Personally, I headcanon that the Mane 6 felt drawn to Ponyville because of the Elements of Harmony, and Twilight ignored the feeling because of her academia while the others didn’t which is why Rarity remained in Ponyville despite loving Canterlot and Manehatten and Rainbow getting a weather job there despite the Wonderbolts being more stationed in Cloudsdale. Flutters of course went there for the animals and AJ for her home.
 
My final headcanon was that the grandma that told Pinkie Pie about the mirror pool and whose cake she was making in the Gilda returns episode lived in Ponyville and originally owned Sugarcube Corner until she retired and left it to her assistants - the Cakes. That’s why Pinkie went to live there while she was so young (going by Cheese Sandwhich’s flashback).

There was no indication that they were or were not friends.

Remember that all five of these ponies (as well as Twilight Sparkle) received their cutie marks at the same time and by the same triggering event, Rainbow Dash’s first sonic rainboom. Cutie marks play an important part of a pony’s destiny, and in this case the Mane Six’s destiny was to become friends and save Equestria together.
 
It’s highly likely that Celestia knew about the rainboom and the other fillies it affected besides Twilight. She would’ve realized that she had to send Twilight to Ponyville to join their group and fulfill their destiny. It’s not stated directly, but in the episode, Celestia confesses that she had intended to do it when Twilight was still young so that she and the others could grow up together, but Celestia couldn’t bring herself to do it until the last moment.

I don’t know if they were friends, this clip only shows one interaction, and the exchanged looks between RD and Fluttershy hints at a rift.
 
Acquaintances would be a better way of describing this scene interaction.

There was really no reason to think they where not friends to some extent already, and it makes more sense if the start was just the one new pony having to learn to be friends with a group that is already friends and not have them all just become friends at the same time.

It does look like Fluttershy was friends with Rarity, but darted off once the others arrived. Fluttershy and Rainbow share a nervous look at each other, like they had a falling out. Rainbow is definitely the center of admiration, but there is no real interaction between Rarity, AJ, and Pinkie (oddly the same trio form P.P.O.V.).

From the looks of it, Celestia was arranging Twilight’s living quarters at the Golden Oak Library with Mayor Mare before noticing the other Element bearers and becoming uneasy about sending Twilight to Ponyville.

But I really liked seeing that Celestia sent Twilight to Ponyville because she expected her to find her friends. Specially after that episode with the time traveling thing I can’t be bothered to remember the title.
