it’s also kind of fantastical how a magical unicorn child cast a spell to take away the mystical mark that was the source of his power. but personally, I feel like the fact that we all expect people like that to be irredeemable might be more of a self-fulfilling prophecy than anything.

well first, he stops punching ponies who don’t deserve it. then he spends more time in self reflection, questioning whether he’s being considerate toward others. then he learns better coping skills for anger and frustration. it proceeds pretty naturally from there.

Sorry, I will try to be more clear… On my DA I have written a short background story: “Shortly after Steady Hooves lost his cutie mark, Starlight’s teacher has arranged for her a place in a boarding school. In a permanently weakened state and with very little magic to aid him, it took Steady Hooves many years to accept his fate and finally come to the realisation that his talent was to protect others, therefore he’d deserved to lose it. With Aurora’s help he moved on with his life and rebuilt the marriage. He has been living without a cutie mark for 18 years.” Then there’s this letter with some more clues that hopefully form a bigger picture. What is in the letter? That I wanted to leave for interpretation.

There’s going to be a longer comics that follows this one, but not about Starlight’s parents. Mainly about Spike and Twilight with Starlight and Sunburst playing secondary roles.

Okay, I know this is meant to be heartwarming, and that her dad found redemption and stuff like that, but he was a total bastard. He does not deserve this “happy” ending.
