@Kibate
Before season 4, Pinkie had only two sisters, base on her flashback in the Cutie Mark episode, with season 4 (and the book that came with it) adding Maud.
@marik_azemus34
example of a retcon is maud pie XD. but they were smart enough to include an image of her in a prior episode to elude to her apperance in the next episodes
@Kibate
Retcon means ‘retroactive continuity’. It’s when a character’s past, lore, or other story aspects are changed, usually to serve the purpose of a story or to update the setting. Comics do this all the time; much of Captain America’s questionable decisions during the Cold War were retconned to be the work of an impostor.
Starlight having kites in her room, and then saying she likes kites later, is not a retcon. A retcon would be if she said “I hate kites” in one episode, and then suddenly expressed a deep interest in them. And that’d be a weak retcon at that.
@621Chopsuey
because she never even once showed ANY interest in kites whatsoever, it was just a background filler to not make the room empty. Now SUDDENLY she is this huge kite geek.
I actually expected some sort of Starlight/Pinkie episode due to how these two played out for the past two seasons…surprised that it happened so early in S7. Starlight focused episodes consistently mention or show cake or cupcakes (especially Every Little Thing She Does)…always thought it was a symbol of some type. Like in the season 5 finale Pinkie just comes into the map room with a cake for absolutely no reason when Starlight, Twilight, and Spike go back in time. No mention of cookies, pies, candy, or anything else…just “cake”.
@JP
I think at that time they didn’t believe the show would last long. Plus with the production timeframe they couldn’t exactly take an unexpected audience outside the target demographic into account.
And Keep in mind, this doesn’t even involve the writing of that episode to ensure kites are in her bedroom. It reaches over to the animators to have them put them in.
So this confirms they don’t actually check prior scripts for continuity, they just seed it as they write new scripts in the animation.
Poor form, really…
They have six years worth of scripts written by different people at different times. How long do you want the production process for each season to take?
If every writer had to, in order, read every script from the first episode on to ensure ABSOLUTE CONTINUITY it’d take months just to get a first draft! And this assumes they can also get their hands on prior approved scripts for the season they’re working on.
Getting upset about Jay Fosgitt’s ignorant blunders makes a lot more sense than agonizing over the comparatively minor plot holes the show suffers from occasionally.
oh he meant the character itself, i see. I thought he was referring to something in the newest episode.

What do you mean by maud pie being a retcon? What did they retcon?
(p.s. to all others, i have read your comments, i just saw replying not worth it)

Edited because: potential seizure hazard... maybe
You clearly have no idea what a retcon is.

Don’t be this way.
It’s nice to see them looking at her likes and interest instead of just her abilities and past.
Nothing indicated a lack of interest in kites. She had no opportunity to express said interest.
Adding depth to a character is not a retcon.
because she never even once showed ANY interest in kites whatsoever, it was just a background filler to not make the room empty. Now SUDDENLY she is this huge kite geek.
This is nowhere close to a retcon.
How is this a retcon?
And people encourage that kind of behavior.
But that’s literally all of his comments. Either that or trying hard to seem unamused.

Edited because: Clarity
Don’t be so passive-egressive.
Sure, in much the same fashion as your comment “confirms” you hate everything the show has done since season 3.
@Jarkes
That’s been SOP since the beginning, really; while season n is being finished, the writing for season n+1 is already underway.
