Yeah, you don’t go for the kiss right after you told someone you like them. That’s way too fast. Besides, they’re not “in love,” they’re attracted to each other. Love takes more time than that.

What that would tell me is that kissing is more reserved for a much more intimate gesture of affection. I mean, this is a society where clothing is HIGHLY optional, so I would think it’d come down to gestures as to indicate depth of affection.
 
And as it stats, they are “starting to date out of a mutual interest for eachother”. Note that even the love poison only made Mac and Cherilee nibble on a cherry at the same time and no kisses were even attempted.
 
Of course, this could be overanalysis of what is going on and just that kissing is reserved for actual couples and jokes.
