No the dream realm and the ethereal realm are the same, Luna uses the ethereal realm to acces ponies dreams, Celestia uses the ethereal realm to ascend ponies to alicornhood. Same plane different uses.  
Also the visions that Celestia showed twilight sparkle are just different manifestations of the dream bubbles that Lina uses

Though death’s security checkpoint isn’t nearly as annoying. Just involves more twitching. The crying, anxiety and pain are about the same, though. But worse in physical airports if the death is quick or a surprise.

And in today’s episode when Celestia and Luna’s CMs were switched their magic was changed as well, Celestia had Luna’s magic aura color and Luna had Celestia’s. So they also head each other’s magic and magical abilities.

Indeed, this astral plane (what it seems to be though its never been named to my knowledge) simply seems to also be a convenient place to access the dream world from. Celestia can’t normally enter the dream world but she can get to the astral plane just fine.

Twilight ascended in the astral plane, not the dream realm.

I was thinking she had the power to go into day dreams, but I just that’s not true.

Twilight PHYSICALLY vanished when the elements blasted her. and she materializes after she got her wings. of which she was  
not asleep
