More likely they would have an electronic base and each dancer would have a RFI chip that it reads for the song. Just like the Skylanders or Disney Infinity toys.

Hasbro is missing a trick with this. they could make a music box set and make the pony on the top replaceable each with different lumps to hit the metal prongs inside.  
 
That metal round thing could be what the pony stands on as it goes down inside of the music box.

Oh God, why did I click the link? xD Just imagine waking up at 2:00 AM, it’s still dark out, and that music box is playing as though it activated itself. Suddenly, without warning, the music slows and deepens in tone. Just as the music cuts off entirely, Pinkie stops rotating, coming to a stop staring directly at you.
 
I must purchase it and make my nightmares come true!

There are high-end porcelain Disney music boxes selling for $60-100 new. There’s a market for cartoon art collectibles, and companies that specialize in just this sort of thing. The question is whether Hasbro and DHX are willing to license it to someone who could do it right. The other thing to hope for might be a ComiCon exclusive, though those are usually based on upgrading an existing toy.

I’d buy one, i’d buy at least 2 of the Starlight version tho <3

I suppose there is hope they make a stationary figure of high quality instead of the basic plastic toy. No hope of a high quality real music box though

I was sad until I realized that it would probably just be a cheap plastic toy instead of the high quality music box I was hoping for.  
I do think it will come out though and I will still buy it, it will just be tucked on a shelf somewhere instead of being the centerpiece I would make it were it high quality.
