That was roughly a season and a half ago. It’s not out of the question that Spike may have needed to replace his toothbrush during that time.
Maybe its Twilight’s toothbrush.

I think she just wanted an excuse to see how Starlight was doing.
That was the point I was trying to make, about how odd it is if it;s not her’s.

Starlight has a spike-themed toothbrush, Spike has a regular purple toothbrush, end of story.
True but unless someone is using it, people tend to keep toothbrush in a another plane then where they keep in another spot.
So for Twi to mistake it for her’s means it was in a place that it looked like someone has been using it.
If no one was using it and it was put away elsewhere, then she didn’t mistake it for Starlight’s, she knowingly grabbed the wrong one so she could do this.

Maybe it’s just a tooth brush that just so happens to look like Spike. Maybe its from the Crystal Empire, it isn’t too hard to believe there would be Spike themed merchandise there
