True, but it’s never as bad as jay’s art. Either way, it’s best to remain civil about those things and not bash anyone about it.
And having an opinion is not fact, the Fosgitt bashers seem to think their opinion that he’s shit is fact, and people are pointing how there are reasons some of the complaints are stupid.
Beeing a bad artist is not “A style”. Stealing assets is not “A style” Beeing to lazy to do research is not “A style” Constantly breaking anatomy and making horses move/behave like some weirdass anthromice is not “A style”
Maybe it’s more they are sick of people going out of their way to mock him for his style.
Seriously he is just bad.
Fosgitt: ‘Don’t know, don’t care, quicker I’ve done with this, the better’
Oh you know, “it’s how it’s done in the show, so it has to be that way in the comic or it’s lazy”
Hah.
This is just one issue of many with this comic. Literally also.
I will say though, that perhaps he should try to draw for an EqG comic. Maybe a minis one if they ever do.

Her wings aren’t said to be weak, she’s just not able to fly.
The one and only time I saw him drawing something on model was when he made a pic of Spike farting fire as a commission.
This pic to be exact. >>1020700
And even leaving the “style” excuse aside, his anatomy is a complete mess: broken legs, broken joints, porportions all over the place despite the “It’s his personal style” excuse, without any improvement after years.
The term “Bracket legs” asociated to the way as he draws pony legs became a thing for a reason.
I wouldn’t call him a bad artist, but it’s more than obvious he isn’t suited at all to work on pony and that’s never going to change no matter if he’s granted a million more chances. Now, if this guy began working for the Looney Toons franchise he would be an overnight hit.
In fact, I wonder why the hell is he still wasting his time on IDW instead of pitching his work to DC.
Curious. Has Fosgitt ever responded to his critics? The dude has a DA account where he posts plenty of his art, so he’s at least got some sort of outlet where he can respond (and considering how rabid the Fosgitt-hate can get, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already responded by now).
As someone who’s aspiring to be a good artist someday, I usually try to find at least some good in someone’s art rather than just declare it all bad. I make no exception with Fosgitt, and even if he makes plenty of mistakes deserving of criticism (off-model anatomy, obvious copy-and-pasting, and bland backgrounds), his art style in general isn’t ugly or bad by any means, even if it would probably be better suited for something like a Tiny Toons or Animaniacs comic.
I have spoken with Beau a lot, the point he is trying to make is the same as your’s, but he tends to point out how unbalanced the criticism is to show people how the negativity is out of hand.
Me and him both came her from other fandoms with a ton of drama and care little for it.
Even showing support for people we might not agree with when they are reasonable.

Didn’t say you were, and I understand. I do agree there’s too much negativity too. (Especially in the brony fanbase.)
I don’t get that either, as I’ve actually defended other people here who’s opinions I even disagreed with before, and such. I even called out a Fosgitt-fan who bashed those that didn’t like him.

I didn’t mean to imply you were bashing other IDW artists; I just think there’s too much negativity on the internet in general, and in the fandom specifically, so I have mixed feelings about responding to overused criticism with underused criticism, so to speak. It’s admittedly a personal thing.
I also find it interesting that Anonycat’s response to your saying that other artists’ mistakes don’t draw as much hate as Fosgitt’s mistakes (or pretty much any drawing he does, by now) is to label you a pro-hater and say you’re attacking fans of those other artists. Very interesting indeed.
Thanks, but as I said I wasn’t trying to hate on or bash other IDW artists, as I said I actually like some of their work, even some of Agnes’.
It’s funny I’m being treated the way the anti-Fosgitt people are claiming they’re being treated by rabid pro-Fosgitt/IDW fans. It’s like I said, you can’t win either way. I’ve been labeled a “mindless pollyanna/Hadrone,” or “pro-hater” so much I’m starting to not care anymore…
Still, I apologize if I was being rude or disrespectful to any artist, or even torwards Anony, or anyone else. Honestly, I just want to get out of this debate…

@Beau Skunky
Or from the latest (Canadian) episode:
But there’s a difference between using the wheel o’ feet to depict speed in situations where ponies normally would use their feet to travel, and using it when a pony would normally use their wings. I mean, if Scootaloo were also using her wings in the above image, then I could accept the wheel o’ feet as showing she was trying to go even faster. Or if it’s stated or implied she’s using her feet in order to go slower and allow the animals to keep up, I’d think that was fine. Barring some explanation like that, though, it’s a mistake, and one that I find frustrating, if not exactly enjoyment-killing.
I’ll agree that the intensity of the Fosgitt hate has long since gotten old, and I think it’s a good thing to show not everyone hates his art; still, I think it’s good to accept (without the hyperbolic invective of most critics) when he does goof.
@Anonycat
I remember people criticizing her bipedal poses back then; I don’t recall anyone saying her ponies looked like people in pony costumes, or saying she was lazy and didn’t watch the show, nor do I recall people plucking out more recent bipedal poses of hers as proof she hadn’t improved, and I certainly don’t recall the criticisms being as vicious and as unrelenting as they are whenever anything of Fosgitt’s is posted, even drawings of his that don’t feature un-ponylike anatomy or differences from the show.
As it stands, I don’t see why Jay Fosgitt has any incentive to improve; nearly all of his fans are OK with his deviations from the show and his (less common than claimed) goofs, nearly all of his critics have demonstrated that they’re going to go on hating him regardless of any progress he does make, and Bobby Curnow is obviously happy with his work.
And if Beau Skunky is going to argue that the hate directed at Fosgitt is disproportionate compared to the hate other artists get, he’s got to point out where other artists have done the same things for which Fosgitt catches all the flak, or have made mistakes of their own. It’s not a tactic I’m happy with, but he’s a whole hell of a lot more respectful in using it than 95% of the comments criticizing Fosgitt are.
That wasn’t what I was trying to say at all… You’re twisting things I said again, and if you keep it up, then I’m out…
Calling me a “pro-hater” is truely ironic, as I’ve actually defended other IDW artists like Tony Fleecs, and Andy Price before when some mindlessly hated on them years back. (Like a guy accusing Andy of being a “Spike-hater” with no real proof) Now it feels like Fosgitt is the only thing people critique or complain about in the comic.
Not to mention, I was against alot of the hater movements like the anti-Twilicorn, anti-Hasbro, anti-EqG, and such things. Ironically, I even got called a Hasdrone before for being “too positive/optmistic” before. Now suddenly I’m a “pro-hater” just because I’m pointing out other artists have done the same mistakes Fosgitt has?
All I’m saying is, I wouldn’t mind the Fosgitt drama much, if people held other artists to the same standards at least occasionally. I’m NOT saying I want them to be “hated” too… How clear do I have to make this?
Oy vey… You can’t win. If you say anything positive about Fosgitt, you’re a “blind lover who sees no flaws whatsoever.” If you say anything about any other artist then you’re a hater?
Also, reread my posts I have never said I “hated” any artist, not even Agnes. All I said was I prefered Fosgitt over her. Though, I acknowledged Fosgitt has problems too, and sometimes I even LIKE Agnes’ stuff so I appoligize if I came off as rude torwards her.
Edited
Exactly this. Fogsitt’s ponies may as well not even be ponies. They look more like little elves or something.
I wish Fosgitt would draw ponies on model. Boom, all drama is automatically over and literally everyone on both sides of the argument wins.
