I somehow doubt Steven would be okay with leaving him there, useful or not.
It means now they have a back door to Homeworld that the Diamonds don’t know about; whatever their plan is, they can drop it right in the middle of the enemy’s capital without warning.
As of the trial, I’m siding with the theory that someone else beat Rose to the punch. It can’t be who I think it is, though, that’d be too damn obvious.
I know what the dictionary says petrification is. But assuming that is what happened, that still leaves questions about the nature of these changes, particularly in terms of what they mean for the future.
Petrification is a process whereby a dead organic object has its organic cell structure replaced by minerals, giving it entirely new physical properties and allowing it to last far longer than it would have otherwise. Rose did it to Lion, Rosette did it to Lars.
It’s also possible that’s how Rose got close enough to Pink Diamond, because what gem would consider a meat cat a threat?
Surprisingly enough, that response still leaves all the important questions unanswered.
He got Petrified, obviously.
