Seiya’s Sanctuary “fights”:
Aldebaran - cuts off a horn
phantom Saga - gets blown away while Shun saves his butt
Aiolia - Cassios’s death was really the trigger that broke the brainwashing, not Seiya (and I wouldn’t call breaking a brainwash “defeating an opponent”)
Shaka - couldn’t even handle him with the other three (Ikki had to save them)
Saga - the guy killed himself with Athena’s staff
I’m sorry, but I’ll have to disagree with you about Kouga. While he did start the series really dumb, he gradually became wiser - sure, he doesn’t employ as much strategy as Seiya did, apart from group battles, but he works quite well as a leader figure among the New Bronze Kids, along with Yuna. and the only reason he whined in the begining is because his parental figure is forcing him into a lifestyle he didn’t want for himself, and a specially dangerous one at that, without bothering to properly explain or justify her actions. And the show gives more focus to his personal dilemmas and relationships than the original series ever gave Seiya, so he doesn’t come across as that bland.
Me pregunto si Rainbow adoptaria una actitud Tsunderes
Poor Dashie, another victim of the Seiya’s unconscious seduction techniques ….
I wonder if Rainbow would adopt an attitude Tsundere
I see your point. I never really thought about it before, but now that you mention it, Kouga does seems to be even worse than Seiya. Seiya is without a doubt the weakest bronze saint of the classic series (in terms of physical strenght), but he excels in endurance and determination, thus it makes some sense that he would win some fights due to pure persistence, besides his few moments of brilliancy, like you said.
The problem with not only Kouga, but Omega itself (and even most modern animes/mangas, I’d say), is that most fights are really quick, in contrast with the long drawn out fights of the classic series. Long fights may become boring after a while, but they tend to be far more memorable than shorter ones, and far better to properly analyze the strong and weaks traits of the characters. I only hope that the new 12 Houses Arc give us a better chance to see what the new bronze saints are made of.
(Oh, and don’t worry about whining, it’s all in good fun! At least for me, it’s always nice to take part in this kind of discussion.)
However, he showed from time to time that he is a somewhat competent fighter, often finding flaws on his opponents’ attacks and thus overcoming his technical weaknesses.
Kouga, on the other hand, along with being bland, whiny and dumb, is even less competent as a fighter. His battle strategies consist of attacking an enemy head on, getting his ass kicked, and then attacking more until he won somehow (which happened in Seiya’s career as well, but not nearly close to that extend).
So yes, Seiya’s not really a good character, but I don’t dare to say Kouga of all people is in any way better.
(Sorry if all this rambling sounds like fanboy-whining, that’s just my opinion. You’re free to disagree.)
Seiya’s memetic stupidity knows no bondaries. We must always treat him with the ultmost despise, regardless of whether there’s people worse than him or not. But jokes aside, I don’t think Kouga is that bad. Sure, he’s just a typical boring shounen hero and certainly not a very memorable character, but he doesn’t make me want to punch him in the face as much as Seiya. Even the winged mule himself has some qualities if you give him a chance.
