Yeah, I was super disappointed by this; they really should have just put the moon in a black circle and left Luna’s butt dapple alone. I choose to believe it was a silly Hyoo-mon animation error which does not accurately reflect the reality of the Royal Hinder.
@toxicitzi
It’s my headcanon and you can’t stop me from having it.
And it’s part of a broader one, where ponies can “upgrade” their cm if they really put their all into it. Like, a dreamwalking cm upgraded to divine tier of moon control.
Coincidentally, that black splotch is one of the things that makes Luna attractive for me. No idea why, it’s just so… perfect for her.
That was either deliberate since we wouldn’t be able to see Luna’s cutie mark against Celestia’s coat without the black splotch, or it’s a continuity error, I honestly have no clue which it is.
I thought that the black splotch was part of Luna’s cutie mark. The blank black splotch in the season 4 finale was an animation error or the animators were lazy.
@Background Pony #2FA9
that’s not a headcanon, as much as it is a theory. one that contradicts the entire concept of CMs.
they just knew they had to get the black splotches on the white fur, alright? :I
Luna already has the dream power, it’s more cool if it’s a skill she trained in her lonely nights, at least that’s what I’m speculating.
I never understood why they had done it that way in Twilight’s Kingdom… I think they fixed their error in A Royal Problem, even if it took Celestia’s pale pink flank to do it.
My headcanon for this is that Luna has a unique dual cutie mark.
The moon part is her alicorn magic that controls the moon and the black splotch controls her ability to dreamwalk.
When Luna gave away her alicorn magic, the moon on her mark vanished.
When Starlight swapped cm’s, she swapped both parts.
yup. Blatant contradiction. They could have had the cms in S4 finale grayscaled, but they changed it now. oh well. Now, this is what Luna’s official CM is, I hope.
that begs the question.. what if for example, Celestia’s CM were to appear on a bright orange furred pony?
I think it was mostly so we could see Luna’s mark on Celestia but given a lot of other factors I wouldn’t be surprised if it was another continuity error
Thanks! :)

k man. it’s your thing.

Took me a day or two to make the connection with Celestia’s coat.
Then again, I would’ve loved if they did your scenario. Would be weird with Luna walking around with Celestia’s CM on her bare skin, though.
