Haha, sweet! Now I wish I’d been more confident and stated that my hypothesis was that I could get 3 different avatars that way. But alas, now I don’t have proof that I predicted that before it happened! >.<
 
So I guess it traces the device if you’re not logged in, or it does link to the account if you’re logged in.
 
Science and reverse-engineering are fun :p

And on my laptop. I mean, I know it’s obviously not linked to account everywhere, but I think they’d work based off of IP or some kind of network trace back to the device or network or something.

You can make a lot of the avatars into canon ponies if you try hard enough. Both avatars only carry similar colors to the ponies shown(and that’s if you stretch the first one’s mauve mane to be close to Sparkler’s bright purple), and the second doesn’t even have the same manestyle.
